FAQ - Newborn Session

When is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot?

The best time to book the photoshoot for your newborn is while you are still pregnant, ideally after your 20-week scan. Some babies decide to come to the world 2 weeks earlier, some 2 weeks late. That's why your due date will be your session date so we can be sure that you are on my calendar for that month. Once your baby is born, all you need to do is contact me so we can schedule a definitive session date and time.

How soon should I have my newborn session after giving birth?

The best time to photograph your newborn baby is within the first 14 days of your baby's arrival. Newborns change very fast, so it is best to capture those precious moments as soon as possible. They tend to stay asleep a few days after birth and this is the best time to gently move your little one into sleepy squishy poses. After 2 weeks they wake more easily, begin to stretch and become more alert.

Where does the session take place?

The photoshoot takes place in my home-based studio in Nuneaton. I have a large selection of blankets, hats, and headbands to choose from, so you won't have a problem finding something you love. You just sit back and relax with a nice cup of tea while I take care of everything else.

How do we prepare for the session?

Bring all the necessary stuff you would normally take when going out with the baby. Put your loose and airy clothes on, so you feel comfortable in the studio where the temperature will be around 26 degrees, to keep your baby warm and cozy. For family portraits, I highly recommend wearing nude, white, or black t-shirts. Apart from that, you don't really need to do anything else. Just stay relaxed, don't stress, and enjoy!

How long does the newborn photoshoot last?

It can last up to 4 hours. Every baby is different and it really depends on the baby's sleep. Most babies sleep really well in the morning that is why I usually set the photoshoots at 10 am. We take time to feed, change the nappy and cuddle the baby.

Can we have photos with our baby?

Absolutely! I usually take these photos at the beginning of the session. If you would like to have your newborn photographed with their new sibling, contact me for special arrangements. As my studio is not set up to entertain other children, we will discuss your individual situation upon booking as it may be preferable to have someone bring your other children at the beginning of the session.

When will I see our photos?

The gallery of 20 beautifully and sympathetically retouched photos will be ready to view within 2 weeks from the day of the shoot.
